The proposal that went nowhere

The proposal was some of my best work. Thoughtful, strategic, exactly what she needed.

Then nothing.

Just silence.

No reply. No “thanks, reviewing this.” Not even a read receipt I could obsess over.

If you’ve ever refreshed your inbox like it might change the outcome, you already know the feeling I’m describing. But before you start slashing your prices or adding yet another “just checking in” email to the pile, let’s pause.

Being ghosted isn’t rejection. It’s information. And when you learn to read it, you can turn that silence into movement, clarity, and better clients.

I remember the time a dream client went quiet after an incredible strategy session. The energy was electric, the outcomes were clear, and the proposal was solid. Then? Crickets.

I could have spiralled. Maybe it’s me, maybe I should drop my rates, maybe I should throw in a bonus keynote.

Sound familiar?

Instead, I chose to ask better questions in the pause before the action. What’s the value gap they’re feeling? Not what did I miss in the deck, but what feels foggy or risky for them right now?

Often, ghosting isn’t about disinterest. It’s about fear.

The decision-maker might not have been in the room.

The team might love the outcome, but doubt their capacity to implement.

So instead of chasing, I shifted to serving with structure. I sent a short “thank you for” note, referencing something meaningful they’d said. I clarified one immediate win, a simple, measurable result they could achieve quickly.

And I gave them a clear decision gate: Yes, No, or Not Now.

No pressure, just respect for their time and mine.

The result? A reset conversation, a quick-win session, and a clean yes, with expanded scope.

This is the whole framework, if you want it. I call it G.H.O.S.T.

G – Give them a Magic Pill. One small, real result, solved now. Proof you actually get it.

H – Humanise the follow-up. Ditch “just checking in.” Lead with gratitude, curiosity, and value. Show you were listening.

O – Offer a quick win. Don’t sell more information. Sell movement – something short and real that rebuilds momentum.

S – Set decision gates. Yes, no, or not now. People reply fast when the choice is simple.

T – Take your power back. No discounts, no chasing. The conversation stays about outcomes, not price.

Ghosting doesn’t have to shake your confidence. Every “not now” makes room for the right yes. That’s not a consolation – it’s genuinely true.

If you’ve got someone who’s gone quiet on you right now, send them one message this week using the G.H.O.S.T framework. See what happens.

And if you’re stuck on working out your own Magic Pill…
