Let’s be real: the market feels brutal right now. Interest rates climbing, competition everywhere and every headline screaming “brace for impact!” It’s tempting to let that noise dictate your next move, to panic, slash prices or hustle yourself into the ground.

But here’s what successful businesses do differently: they use uncertainty as their competitive advantage. Whilst everyone else is retreating, you’re going to double down strategically.

There are smart, strategic shifts that women leading in this space are making right now, and today I’m going to break down the four game-changing moves that my clients and I have been making to not just stay afloat, but sail ahead whilst everyone else is anchored in fear.

1. Focus on Your A-Grade Clients

When budgets tighten, your energy needs to laser-focus on the clients who actually matter. I.e., the ones who pay on time, value your work and refer others without being asked. This is your permission slip to stop trying to be everything to everyone.

Here’s a little exercise for you: Grab a pen. Write down your top three clients. What makes them different? Now ask yourself: is your messaging speaking directly to people like them, or are you still trying to appeal to anyone with a pulse? Because when you speak to everyone, you connect with no one.

2. Stack Your Value

This isn’t the time to join the discount race to the bottom. Whilst your competitors are slashing prices, you’re going to become impossible to ignore. It’s about value, not volume.

What transformation are you actually delivering? What’s the “wow” factor that makes clients think “I need that”? Maybe it’s behind-the-scenes insights, quick-win tools or exclusive access. The magic isn’t in lowering your prices, it’s in making your value undeniable.

3. Build Recurring Revenue

The pandemic taught us one thing: uncertainty is the only certainty. My business lost 80% of its revenue almost overnight during COVID. Gut-wrenching doesn’t begin to cover it, but it forced me to find clarity.

I started building recurring revenue streams and guaranteed income that doesn’t disappear when the market hiccups. Think memberships, retainers or ongoing partnerships. It’s not just about surviving the next downturn; it’s about thriving through it.

This isn’t about building subscriptions for the sake of cash flow. It’s about designing containers where you can truly serve, deeply connect and build long-term partnerships.  And that may be a shift that you are ready to make.

Repackage Your Offerings

When clients can’t commit to big investments, you don’t need to stress about creating new offerings. The best thing you can do is repackage what you already have. Turn that six-month program into bite-sized solutions that are easier to approve and easier to afford.

You’re not dumbing down your expertise; you’re making it accessible. Smaller commitments build trust, maintain relationships and keep revenue flowing whilst clients work up to bigger investments.

Your Move

This isn’t the moment to shrink. Whilst everyone else is playing defence, you’re going to play offence. Audit your client list. Review your offerings. Consider that mini-retainer you’ve been putting off.

Your clients need a lighthouse right now, something steady and reliable in the chaos. Stop being the boat getting tossed around by every wave. Be the lighthouse. Show up brilliantly. Lead with intention.

Remember, the market doesn’t get to decide your success. You do.
