Outwork Everyone: The Unsexy Truth Behind Success

Let’s have a heart-to-heart. This one’s for the doers, the dreamers, those incredible women juggling empire-building and everyday chores – like figuring out what the hell to cook for dinner! We’ve all been there, questioning if we’re the only ones struggling so hard. Well, allow me to give it to you straight: you’re definitely not alone. However, you do need to hear this because success—real success—is gritty, messy and far from the polished facade often portrayed.

The Illusion of Overnight Success

Ever tried to manifest your dreams, surrounded by vision boards and affirmations? Trust me, I’ve tried too. Everyone’s selling the allure of “Six figures in six weeks” or those magical formulas to replace your income while you sleep. Sounds dreamy, right? But behind the scenes, it’s a different story—late nights, rejections, the tears in the shower when no one’s watching. It’s about 6 years of persistent effort, countless doubts and no applause.

My Journey from Blog to Business

Let me take you back to 2009. I started writing my blog—no frills, no strategic marketing, just a burning question in my gut—What do I truly want to say? Each Sunday, in silence and obscurity, I wrote and posted. The reward? Mostly silence. But I carried on, week after week, year after year. And that, folks, is how the messy, unstylish journey evolved. That little blog became my intellectual property, which snowballed into keynotes, frameworks, a loyal client base, books and this very podcast. People may see the result now and applaud, but back then, it looked like a whole lot of nothing.

Understanding Grit: The Unseen Backbone of Success

Looking for my shortcut? Here it is: I simply didn’t quit. Let’s discuss grit. Angela Duckworth defines it as passion and perseverance for long-term goals. Consistent, uninspiring grit—not the glamorous, fleeting kind of perseverance. Success is repeated hard work, and let’s face it, consistency is the most boring part. But oh, the thrill of looking back years later at something unstoppable you’ve built!

Strength in Consistency

There’s no doubt we’re in a challenging time in the world right now—political unrest, economic uncertainty. It’s natural to doubt and question during these slow, difficult periods. But this is where most people give up, falling off in the dull, dreary dip. Yet, the top 5%, they power through, understanding that success is a slippery, uneven climb, not a well-mapped, linear staircase to glory. It’s more like a clumsy octopus tripping up a hill – and that’s okay!

Rep It Out

So, how do you keep going when motivation is running low? I’ve got a formula for you:

  1. Choose Your Non-Negotiable Rep: Pick that one thing that, if done daily, could shift your business—be it emails, pitching, content or practice.
  2. Create a Ritual: Make it sacred. Light a candle when writing—whatever triggers your brain and helps you tap into genius territory.
  3. Track Your Reps, Not Likes: Forget the dopamine rush of social media. Focus on the input and use a tally system for tracking real progress.
  4. Gamify Your Process: Reward yourself. Make the process enjoyable—whether it’s Champagne Fridays for hitting goals or other little rituals.

Your Challenge: The Power of Non-Negotiable Reps

Here’s my challenge to you this week: pick your rep and commit to it daily for the next 30 days. Track it, cherish it and fall in love with the process rather than the outcome. This is how empires are built—one unglamorous, tenacious step at a time. And, if this resonates with you, share it. Let’s lift each other up and remind ourselves and others why we started in the first place.
