The market feels brutal right now. Interest rates climbing, competition everywhere and every headline screaming “brace for impact!” It’s tempting to let that noise dictate your next move, to panic, slash prices or hustle yourself into the ground. But here’s what successful businesses do differently: they use uncertainty as their competitive advantage. Whilst everyone else is retreating, you’re going to double down strategically.

Today, I’m breaking down the four game-changing moves that my clients and I have been making to not just stay afloat, but sail ahead whilst everyone else is anchored in fear. We explore how to laser-focus on your A-grade clients, stacking your value, building recurring revenue and repackaging your existing offerings when clients can’t commit to big investments.

This isn’t the moment to shrink. Your clients need a lighthouse right now, something steady and reliable in the chaos. Remember, the market doesn’t get to decide your success. You do.

Janine:

So today I wanna dive

Janine:

into what it takes to grow

Janine:

your business in tougher times

Janine:

in tougher sales environment,

Janine:

business development

Janine:

is so much harder.

Janine:

Now, I'm not talking

Janine:

about a recession per se.

Janine:

I'm talking about a market

Janine:

where it feels harder to

Janine:

get a yes, where clients

Janine:

may be a little bit more

Janine:

cautious or budgets are tight

Janine:

and Competition is fierce,

Janine:

but we're not panicking.

Janine:

We're not hustling harder.

Janine:

We are not.

Janine:

We actually racing

Janine:

to the bottom.

Janine:

What we're going to

Janine:

do is we're gonna get

Janine:

strategic, intentional.

Janine:

We're going to get brilliant.

Janine:

This episode is your

Janine:

permission slip.

Janine:

to double down

Janine:

and not FREAK OUT.

Janine:

The reality is things are a

Janine:

little bit tougher right now.

Janine:

The headlines allowed.

Janine:

Interest rates are up.

Janine:

Again, There's a

Janine:

housing crisis.

Janine:

fear, fear, fear, and let's

Janine:

be honest, it's easy to

Janine:

let that noise creep into

Janine:

your business decisions.

Janine:

This isn't the end.

Janine:

I actually think it's

Janine:

a great business filter

Janine:

because right now

Janine:

businesses are being sorted.

Janine:

The flimsy, the copycats,

Janine:

the vanilla are shrinking,

Janine:

but the bold, the

Janine:

brilliant, the visionary.

Janine:

They're the ones that are

Janine:

doubling down, and I want

Janine:

you to be the lighthouse

Janine:

in the storm, not the boat

Janine:

clinging to the rocks.

Janine:

I want you to be steady.

Janine:

Shining showing the way there

Janine:

are smart strategic shifts

Janine:

that women leading in this

Janine:

space are making right now.

Janine:

And I'm gonna break

Janine:

it down for you.

Janine:

I'm gonna give you 4 strategic

Janine:

shifts that I've been

Janine:

making and that my clients

Janine:

have been making, and I

Janine:

wanna share them for you.

Janine:

Now.

Janine:

The first shift is

Janine:

one of Laser in on

Janine:

your A Grade clients.

Janine:

This is what I've been

Janine:

doing in my own business,

Janine:

especially in times like this.

Janine:

I'm looking at my client

Janine:

list and I'm asking,

Janine:

who are the A graders?

Janine:

Who are the clients that

Janine:

light me up, that pay on

Janine:

time, that do the work?

Janine:

Who are the ones that have

Janine:

become raving fans of mine?

Janine:

You see, I don't just

Janine:

work with anyone.

Janine:

I go all in with

Janine:

the right ones.

Janine:

I want results for them

Janine:

and for me, I wanna create

Janine:

brilliance, not burnout.

Janine:

You see those eight grade

Janine:

clients, they are the

Janine:

ones that fuel my energy,

Janine:

that trust my process,

Janine:

that spread the word.

Janine:

And so I want you to try this.

Janine:

I want you to make a list

Janine:

of your top three clients

Janine:

right now, or it could

Janine:

be your top past clients.

Janine:

And I want you to ask yourself

Janine:

what made them top tier.

Janine:

What is it?

Janine:

And I want you to ask

Janine:

yourself, how can you

Janine:

attract more of them?

Janine:

And then review

Janine:

your messaging.

Janine:

Are you speaking to them?

Janine:

Are you really speaking

Janine:

to them or are you trying

Janine:

to please everyone?

Janine:

And actually, in that

Janine:

process, ending up invisible

Janine:

and speaking to all of the

Janine:

people out there instead

Janine:

of the ones that matter.

Janine:

So shift number one is

Janine:

zoning in doubling down

Janine:

on your A Grade clients.

Janine:

The second shift I've been

Janine:

making in my own business

Janine:

is Stacking my value.

Janine:

This is something that I go

Janine:

deep on in a previous episode

Janine:

called Pricing with Power.

Janine:

So go back and have a listen

Janine:

to that if you haven't yet.

Janine:

It's where I talk about

Janine:

how so many women actually

Janine:

undercharge or dilute

Janine:

their value in tough times.

Janine:

But I wanna tell you, the

Janine:

ones that win don't discount.

Janine:

They become irresistible.

Janine:

It's about value exchange.

Janine:

What transformation

Janine:

are you offering?

Janine:

What support are you giving?

Janine:

What elevation

Janine:

are you enabling?

Janine:

And I always ask myself,

Janine:

what are the magic

Janine:

pills in my offer?

Janine:

Those irresistible little

Janine:

extras that delight, that

Janine:

build trust, that make

Janine:

people say, I want that.

Janine:

I need that.

Janine:

For me, it might be

Janine:

behind the scenes access.

Janine:

It could be quick winning

Janine:

tools, it could be direct

Janine:

voxer coaching or small things

Janine:

that, um, really create huge

Janine:

impact that stack your value,

Janine:

that elevate your offer, that

Janine:

deliver more transformation.

Janine:

So I want you to.

Janine:

Think about how you do that.

Janine:

How do you actually go

Janine:

further stack your value

Janine:

and what are the magic

Janine:

pills in your business

Janine:

that you can give with no

Janine:

expectation of anything in

Janine:

re in return, but through

Janine:

giving those magic pills,

Janine:

it's stacking your value.

Janine:

It's showing your clients

Janine:

that you care, that you

Janine:

understand, and you you've got

Janine:

a little bit of something for

Janine:

them that will create a huge

Janine:

impact for them immediately.

Janine:

The third shift.

Janine:

Uh, that I made was one

Janine:

back in, post well during

Janine:

pandemic and post then, and

Janine:

it's something I want you

Janine:

to think about, and this

Janine:

is this one about Building

Janine:

some level of guaranteed

Janine:

or recurring revenue.

Janine:

Now at the start of the

Janine:

pandemic, again, I've shared

Janine:

this story many times.

Janine:

I lost 80% of my revenue

Janine:

in that first 90 days.

Janine:

And the reason was because

Janine:

the majority of my business

Janine:

was through corporate.

Janine:

It was keynote speaking,

Janine:

it was one-off programs,

Janine:

it was workshops and the

Janine:

pandemic hit the world

Janine:

shut down, and practically

Janine:

overnight, I lost the

Janine:

majority of my business gone.

Janine:

Yeah, I cried.

Janine:

Yes, I panicked for a

Janine:

minute, but then I got clear.

Janine:

I thought about,

Janine:

what am I known for?

Janine:

What do people need right now?

Janine:

How can I serve and

Janine:

sustain people right now?

Janine:

Now, what was also interesting

Janine:

is that over for me is

Janine:

that, you know, I'd spent,

Janine:

I'd spent the last 10 years

Janine:

building that positioning.

Janine:

I'd also written two books.

Janine:

A third book was

Janine:

coming out during the

Janine:

Pandemic Be Brilliant.

Janine:

My third book, and what it

Janine:

made me realize through the

Janine:

emails and the interactions

Janine:

that I was getting online is

Janine:

that people still wanted help.

Janine:

They still wanted support.

Janine:

They still wanted

Janine:

transformation.

Janine:

So on the back of

Janine:

writing Be Brilliant.

Janine:

I launched a six

Janine:

week online program.

Janine:

I had no idea how to

Janine:

do online, so I learned

Janine:

like a crazy thing,

Janine:

in the run up to this.

Janine:

But I launched a

Janine:

six week program.

Janine:

Uh, the first one was on

Janine:

networking, the second

Janine:

one was on Be Brilliant.

Janine:

It then evolved

Janine:

into a 12 week.

Janine:

Transformation and now

Janine:

that evolution has become

Janine:

the Elevate Mastermind,

Janine:

a high touch, high impact

Janine:

container that supports

Janine:

women scaling with strategy.

Janine:

It was about building

Janine:

consistent income,

Janine:

but more than that,

Janine:

it was about creating

Janine:

ongoing transformation.

Janine:

Space where growth doesn't

Janine:

end at the transaction.

Janine:

This isn't about building

Janine:

subscriptions for the

Janine:

sake of cash flow.

Janine:

It's not about that.

Janine:

It's it's about designing

Janine:

containers where you can truly

Janine:

serve, where you can deeply

Janine:

connect, and where you can

Janine:

build long-term partnerships.

Janine:

And that may be a shift

Janine:

that you are ready to make.

Janine:

The final shift is

Janine:

one about Repackaging

Janine:

your product offering.

Janine:

You know, some of my

Janine:

brilliant clients during

Janine:

these tougher times have been

Janine:

trying to sell these really

Janine:

big juicy programs, these

Janine:

six month, 12 month, huge

Janine:

transformation hefty price

Janine:

tag programs, which previously

Janine:

have worked and it's been

Janine:

awesome, but in this climate.

Janine:

It's been too much,

Janine:

it's been too heavy.

Janine:

It's been too hard for

Janine:

clients to commit to.

Janine:

So what we did is we

Janine:

unbundled, we stripped

Janine:

down those programs.

Janine:

Those programs still

Janine:

exist, but we looked at

Janine:

those programs and we

Janine:

identified what is the

Janine:

magic in those programs?

Janine:

What are the, the smaller,

Janine:

more bite sized offers

Janine:

within that bigger program.

Janine:

So this wasn't about

Janine:

creating something new,

Janine:

it was about taking what

Janine:

they had and unbundling it

Janine:

to create mini solutions,

Janine:

power packed outcomes.

Janine:

Nothing needed to be

Janine:

rerecorded or redesigned.

Janine:

it was about using what

Janine:

they already had and

Janine:

repackaging it, unbundling

Janine:

it, and rebundling it.

Janine:

Just later sharp

Janine:

positioning and a

Janine:

crystal clear invitation.

Janine:

Yes, the pie out there,

Janine:

the possible pie.

Janine:

Of available budget

Janine:

might be smaller right

Janine:

now, but guess what?

Janine:

There's still a pie.

Janine:

And your job is to maximize

Janine:

the slice that's available

Janine:

right now for you and to

Janine:

do it in a way that signals

Janine:

partnership and support.

Janine:

You don't need to burn out

Janine:

building something new.

Janine:

Sometimes it's simply about

Janine:

repackaging what you've

Janine:

already got, the brilliance

Janine:

that you've already got, so

Janine:

that it fits into this moment.

Janine:

When something's a

Janine:

little bit smaller,

Janine:

it's easy to purchase.

Janine:

We don't have to go

Janine:

through procurement.

Janine:

We don't have to go through

Janine:

big budget sign off, but

Janine:

what it does is it keeps

Janine:

us in with that client.

Janine:

It shows that we're supporting

Janine:

that client, and over time,

Janine:

as we're building even more

Janine:

trust and even more support

Janine:

and even more partnership,

Janine:

that little thing becomes big

Janine:

again, your brilliance isn't

Janine:

in the packaging, it's in the

Janine:

problem that you're solving

Janine:

for your clients right now.

Janine:

So what's your next move?

Janine:

Now is not the time to shrink.

Janine:

It's the time to lead.

Janine:

I wanna recap those four smart

Janine:

shifts that I'm talking about.

Janine:

Number one, laser in on

Janine:

your A Grade clients.

Janine:

Number two, think about how

Janine:

you can stack your value

Janine:

with magnetic intention.

Janine:

Number three, what about

Janine:

shifting to considering

Janine:

a recurring revenue

Janine:

model for peace of mind

Janine:

repackage and rethink

Janine:

what it is that you offer?

Janine:

Maybe this week, start

Janine:

getting curious about one

Janine:

of those four moves and

Janine:

think about what is an

Janine:

action that you can take.

Janine:

You could audit your clients,

Janine:

you could review your

Janine:

product suite, you could

Janine:

create a mini retainer.

Janine:

Just start, and once

Janine:

again, if today's episode

Janine:

resonated, if it's helped

Janine:

you think differently,

Janine:

can you help me out?

Janine:

Please leave a review because

Janine:

it really helps or share this

Janine:

podcast with another business

Janine:

owner who is ready to double

Janine:

down instead of burning out.

Janine:

Remember, you are the

Janine:

lighthouse in this storm

Janine:

for your clients, and we

Janine:

need you to turn up and

Janine:

to show up brilliantly

Janine:

doing the incredible work

Janine:

that you are here to do.

Janine:

Until next time, stay

Janine:

brilliantly bold.
