Let’s cut to the chase.
Networking has become one of the hottest leadership conversations of 2025. Why? Because the illusion of going it alone is finally cracking. And guess what – your network could be the very thing that changes your trajectory.
Last month, I had the privilege of running a transformational keynote and workshop for the Queensland Department of Education. What was I brought in to teach? Not strategy. Not productivity. Not leadership 101.
Networking.
Not the cringe kind. Not transactional small talk over warm wine. But strategic, meaningful, growth-accelerating connection.
And this topic is exploding. Because in uncertain markets and disrupted industries, we don’t need more lone rangers. We need connection creators. Relationship builders.
We need to stop being order takers and start being opportunity makers.
Here’s what I shared—and what every leader and business owner needs to hear.
Support Changes Everything
If you’re lonely at the top, you’re doing it wrong.
Most of us are missing at least one of these two crucial people in our network:
- Your Pit Crew: the people who remind you who you are when the wheels fall off.
- Your Teacher: the one who can see what’s coming and helps you get there faster.
These are not your partner or your best mate. This is your professional scaffolding.
Do a quick check-in – who’s in your corner?
Opportunity Follows Connection
The next opportunity won’t come from your resume. It’ll come from your relationships. You need:
- A Promoter: the one who talks you up when you’re not in the room.
- A Butt-Kicker: the one who makes sure you actually do the thing you said you were going to do.
No Promoter? You stay hidden. No Butt-Kicker? You stay stuck.
So who’s holding you accountable to your bigger vision?
Stop Waiting. Start Connecting.
You don’t need a red carpet networking event. You don’t need to work a room.
You need to get intentional. Reach out to someone you admire. Tell them how they impacted you. Ask a real question. Start a real conversation.
Because your next breakthrough? It probably starts with a DM.
