Where Are Your Glimmers for 2024?

Does it feel like the year is slipping away before it’s even begun?

I get it. Time flies when you’re being pulled in every direction as a business owner, a leader, and, let’s face it, a real-life superhero. But in all the busy-ness, we often miss something truly important—the magic.

For those who’ve been with me for a while, you might have heard me talk about glimmer moments. And at this time of year, I believe we need them more than ever.

What’s a glimmer moment?

I’m not talking about overhyped New Year’s resolutions or the pressure to set life-altering goals that fade before February rolls around. Glimmers are far quieter. They’re the small, fleeting moments that spark a sense of peace or joy – the ones you might miss if you’re not paying attention.

Every year on New Year’s Eve, before heading out to celebrate, I carve out time to reflect. I grab my journal and scroll through my camera reel, noting down one glimmer moment for each month of the year. Some are big, like a milestone birthday, stepping onto a stage to speak, or meeting someone who made an impact on me. Others are quieter – a swim in the ocean, a coffee date with a friend, or a cuddle with one of my fur family.

It’s in this ritual that I slow down the feeling of the year having raced by and I truly see the beauty of the 12 months that has passed – not just the major milestones but the magic in the little things that might have slipped by unnoticed.

Psychotherapist Deb Dana describes glimmers as “the small, quiet moments that fill us with peace.”

While life’s stresses and challenges seem to shout for your attention, glimmers are the gentle whispers reminding you of joy, beauty, and connection.

How do you find your glimmers?

They’re everywhere if you know where to look. Glimmers don’t need to be profound, Instagram-worthy events. They can be as simple as:

  • The scent of freshly brewed coffee in the morning.
  • A warm hug from someone you love.
  • The way your pet looks at you when you walk through the door.
  • The feel of soft sheets at the end of a long day.

When you slow down enough to notice these moments, something magical happens. Time stops rushing by. You stop feeling like you’re constantly chasing the clock. Instead, you start living fully in each moment.

Your challenge this New Year’s Eve

This year, I invite you to lean into the glimmers around you. Take a moment to pause, breathe, and look for those tiny sparks that often get lost in the blur of busyness.

Why not try my New Year’s Eve ritual? Pull out your journal or scroll through your photos from 2024 and jot down your own glimmer moments – one for each month. It might be a huge achievement, like landing your dream client, or something as simple as a walk in nature that cleared your head. I share more about this in a recent podcast episode:

Apple Music

Because when you notice and collect these small moments of joy, life feels richer. The mundane becomes meaningful, and your days take on a new kind of magic.

So, tell me, how many glimmers will you find this year? I’d love to hear what’s lighting you up as we step into 2025.

With glimmers of joy,

Janine X
