Success Is A Long Table

At the end of February, I held an event for my Inner Circle VIP clients. Not only did we delve deep into global discussion around leadership and business, but each time we are able to gather in the same space, it becomes about so much more.

It becomes about connection.

The connection that leads to collaboration, partnerships, new ideas, life-changing discussions, and support networks that last the test of time and distance. A photo from one of the times the Inner Circle members have met up summarises this perfectly.

To me, this is the image of success.

It’s not the hustle and grind of locking yourself in a room and staring at a screen for 10+ hours a day.

It’s not the rented Lamborghinis or the millions of followers.

What it is, is the time to build relationships that matter.

It’s the business that supports your lifestyle instead of your life being dedicated to your business.

It’s sustainable growth and stability to create an impact in the lives of others.

It’s the level of expertise to be generous with your time and knowledge to help those in your circle.

It’s the ability to surround yourself with amazing people who both inspire you and help you get to the next level in all areas of your life.

You may be sitting here thinking, how do you even get a seat at one of these long tables?

Well, the truth of the matter is, you can begin creating your own table. And it starts by asking yourself a few questions.

  1. Who is at your table currently? When you identify these people, you need to ask if these are the right people to have sitting at your table. Are they the people who support you, or the people who keep you small because your big dreams scare them?
  2. Who at this table are you learning from? Maybe there is someone who has more experience than you or has the knowledge to get you to where you want to go. If you have just realised that you fill this role for everyone else at the table, you may have found yourself being the big fish in a small pond. It’s time to look for an even bigger table where you have the opportunity to learn again.
  3. Who at this table is going to promote you at other tables even when you aren’t present? We all need someone who believes so wholeheartedly in what we do that they are our best promoter.
  4. Who at this table is there to keep you grounded? They remind you of how far you’ve come, check in when things get tough, and see you as the whole of you. Not just your success but the person you are choosing to become.
  5. Who at this table is going to hold you accountable? The person who shows up at your house at 4am when you said you were going to start going to the gym first thing in the morning. The person who steps in for you when life has got in the way. The one who reminds you of why your goals are important and won’t let you give up on yourself.
  6. How many of these people are not directly related to you or your significant other? If the answer is no one, then I’m sorry, but you still haven’t found a long enough table. Your loved ones shouldn’t be your only support network.

These are the people who start making a table that leads to more success for everyone at the table.

You might also want to get curious about which of these roles you currently show up in for those in your life.

You may have asked these questions and realised that you need a few more people at your table.

That’s okay.

We all start somewhere, and awareness is the precursor for taking action. So don’t let this knowledge be where you stop, start looking for people that you could invite to your table.

Because life’s much more fun with people sitting at your table.
