These past few months have felt heavy, haven’t they? Everywhere we turn, there’s this call to brace for impact—economic downturns, clients pausing, budgets tightening. And there’s that nagging hum of fear we can’t quite silence. It’s not the dramatic kind, but that persistent whisper of “What if I’m not ready?” or “What if I fail?” Today, we’re exploring how to transform that fearful whisper into a motivating force.

I share my own journey of overcoming a deep-seated fear that kept me stuck for years, and how one friend’s simple suggestion changed everything. Your fear might look different—going live on camera, charging what you’re worth or saying yes to that daunting speaking engagement. We explore how bravery isn’t about being fearless; it’s about making that leap even with your heart hammering in your chest, and how weaving brave steps into your routine turns “I can’t” into “I am.”

The secret that changes everything: fear shuts doors, but curiosity throws them wide open. Instead of “What if I fail?” try asking “What might I learn? What doors might open?” I share real stories from my Elevate Inner Circle—clients who raised their prices without pushback, went from camera-shy to landing speaking gigs, and turned viral stories into new opportunities. Their journeys didn’t blossom from the absence of fear, but from turning it into a guiding compass.

Your challenge: identify one fear that’s been playing safety officer in your life and take one small step to overcome it this week.

Hello and welcome

Janine:

back to another episode

Janine:

of Unleashing Brilliance.

Janine:

It's wonderful

Janine:

to have you here.

Janine:

Now, I don't know what

Janine:

your last few months have

Janine:

been like, but everywhere

Janine:

I have been looking.

Janine:

Listening, watching.

Janine:

They're feeling a

Janine:

little bit heavy.

Janine:

You know, everywhere we turn,

Janine:

it feels like we're being

Janine:

told to brace, to bunker down,

Janine:

to prepare for the worse.

Janine:

And the media seems to

Janine:

be full of warnings,

Janine:

economic slowdowns, client

Janine:

hesitations, tightening

Janine:

budgets, et cetera, et cetera.

Janine:

And maybe like many

Janine:

of us, you felt that

Janine:

creeping sensation, fear.

Janine:

Not the dramatic movie

Janine:

trailer kind of fear, but

Janine:

that low hum in your gut.

Janine:

The what if I'm not ready.

Janine:

Fear the what if I fail?

Janine:

Fear the what if

Janine:

they say no fear.

Janine:

Now I want to be clear here.

Janine:

Fear is not.

Janine:

The enemy fear is information.

Janine:

And today I wanna explore

Janine:

how we can use it.

Janine:

Not to stop, but how we

Janine:

can use it to keep going.

Janine:

So you might have seen

Janine:

I wrote recently about

Janine:

jumping into the ocean.

Janine:

You see, here's the thing.

Janine:

I grew up in the north

Janine:

of England and I want

Janine:

you to imagine cold

Janine:

gra seas and coastlines.

Janine:

the ones that don't

Janine:

exactly invite you in

Janine:

with a lovely warm hug.

Janine:

It's not like where I'm

Janine:

living now here in Sydney

Janine:

on the northern beaches.

Janine:

So naturally for me,

Janine:

when it came to open

Janine:

water, I was terrified.

Janine:

By the way, any of you that

Janine:

are listening to this, that

Janine:

grew up in England, you'll

Janine:

know that we didn't really

Janine:

learn to swim properly.

Janine:

Part of it is

Janine:

because we avoided.

Janine:

Public swimming pools, or

Janine:

maybe that was just me.

Janine:

But when it came to Ocean, and

Janine:

when it came to open water,

Janine:

I was absolutely terrified.

Janine:

And even after moving

Janine:

to Australia land of

Janine:

golden beaches and

Janine:

ocean dips and just.

Janine:

Gorgeous, nice warm oceans.

Janine:

That fear didn't

Janine:

magically disappear.

Janine:

my husband would laugh

Janine:

'cause he's a surfer

Janine:

and he'd race into the

Janine:

water, loving the waves.

Janine:

My kids would do the same.

Janine:

Jumping in with their boogie

Janine:

boards, um, Body surfing.

Janine:

Meanwhile, I'm waiting

Janine:

for Nice and still

Janine:

Mediterranean Ocean.

Janine:

And you know, this had

Janine:

happened all the time that

Janine:

I'd watch from the sand

Janine:

smiling on the outside,

Janine:

but with this knot in my

Janine:

stomach every single time

Janine:

as the waves crashed in,

Janine:

I'm absolutely useless.

Janine:

The fear kept me

Janine:

standing still.

Janine:

But here's the thing,

Janine:

that's what fear does.

Janine:

It convinces us that standing

Janine:

still is safer, that waiting

Janine:

is wiser, that someone else

Janine:

with more confidence and

Janine:

more preparation, some more

Janine:

something should go first.

Janine:

But something shifted

Janine:

for me and it started

Janine:

with a little nudge.

Janine:

It was actually a running

Janine:

dare that changed me.

Janine:

Fire, my friend and running

Janine:

partner, the amazing Kelly.

Janine:

You see, we were doing

Janine:

our regular runs, our

Janine:

regular Monday, Friday

Janine:

start, the week end, the

Janine:

week runs, breathless,

Janine:

sweaty, you know, all in.

Janine:

And one morning she turns to

Janine:

me and says, let's finish this

Janine:

run with a ocean dip Now.

Janine:

She's actually, I

Janine:

don't even think she

Janine:

is more of water baby.

Janine:

'cause she's also

Janine:

from England too.

Janine:

But know, I'm always

Janine:

up for a challenge and

Janine:

everything in me screamed no.

Janine:

But out came this tiny voice,

Janine:

the one that knew I was

Janine:

capable of more than my fear.

Janine:

And it said,

Janine:

alright, let's do it.

Janine:

That first time, oh my gosh.

Janine:

Absolute chaos, cold shock.

Janine:

I think I squealed, actually,

Janine:

I don't think I squealed.

Janine:

I think I screamed loud

Janine:

enough to wake up the

Janine:

entire neighborhood, but I

Janine:

also felt something else.

Janine:

I felt exhilaration.

Janine:

I felt pride.

Janine:

I felt relief.

Janine:

I felt a flicker of courage,

Janine:

and the next time we went

Janine:

out running, we did it again.

Janine:

And again and again, and

Janine:

every single day that we did

Janine:

this day by day, the ocean

Janine:

stopped being the monster

Janine:

that I'd imagined it to be.

Janine:

And it became something

Janine:

entirely different.

Janine:

It became a mark

Janine:

of my bravery.

Janine:

This wasn't about becoming

Janine:

a triathlete or ticking

Janine:

a fear off a bucket list.

Janine:

It was actually about

Janine:

reclaiming my power

Janine:

one dip at a time.

Janine:

And maybe for you the ocean.

Janine:

Looks a little bit different.

Janine:

It could look like putting

Janine:

your face to camera and going

Janine:

live for the first time.

Janine:

It could be turning up

Janine:

like I am, on a podcast

Janine:

on camera, because this is

Janine:

going out to YouTube too.

Janine:

It could be finally charging

Janine:

what you are worth or saying

Janine:

no to that energy sucking

Janine:

client or even booking that

Janine:

speaking gig that you feel

Janine:

wildly unqualified for.

Janine:

Here's the truth that most

Janine:

people won't tell you.

Janine:

You don't need to feel

Janine:

fearless to be brave.

Janine:

You just need to act a one

Janine:

tiny act and find a way to

Janine:

do it while still afraid.

Janine:

The bonus points.

Janine:

When you make that action

Janine:

part of your existing routine

Janine:

like we did with those post

Janine:

run dips, it becomes easier.

Janine:

It becomes normalized.

Janine:

It becomes empowering.

Janine:

You go from saying,

Janine:

I can't do this to, I

Janine:

am going to do this.

Janine:

And here's where it starts

Janine:

getting really interesting,

Janine:

because fear shuts us down

Janine:

whilst curiosity opens us up.

Janine:

So instead of asking, what

Janine:

if I fail, what about asking

Janine:

yourself, what might I learn?

Janine:

What might I gain?

Janine:

What might become

Janine:

possible if I tried?

Janine:

I invite you to get

Janine:

playful with it because

Janine:

fear wants us to believe

Janine:

the outcome is disaster.

Janine:

Curiosity, meanwhile wants

Janine:

us to believe the outcome is

Janine:

growth and that switch, that's

Janine:

where confidence is built.

Janine:

I wanna give you a

Janine:

few examples from

Janine:

inside my own Elevate.

Janine:

Inner Circle community.

Janine:

One client who was terrified

Janine:

of raising her prices,

Janine:

she did it and her next

Janine:

prospect didn't even flinch.

Janine:

She told me.

Janine:

It's like the fear was

Janine:

only in my head and

Janine:

I'm going, yes it was.

Janine:

No one sets prices

Janine:

apart from us.

Janine:

And then there's another

Janine:

client, another brilliant

Janine:

but camera shy client

Janine:

that committed to one

Janine:

92nd video a week.

Janine:

By week four, she landed

Janine:

a paid speaking geek, and

Janine:

there's another client

Janine:

who's been hiding behind

Janine:

corporate jargon for years,

Janine:

and she finally told her

Janine:

personal story in a post.

Janine:

That post went viral in

Janine:

her niche post brought

Janine:

in four new inquiries.

Janine:

Fear was never the

Janine:

barrier, it was the signal.

Janine:

And they each used it as a

Janine:

compass, not as a stop sign.

Janine:

And right now, as I've

Janine:

said multiple times

Janine:

over the last few weeks,

Janine:

trust is the currency.

Janine:

People are being overwhelmed

Janine:

and over pitched, but

Janine:

they are still investing.

Janine:

And you can show these

Janine:

potential clients.

Janine:

that fear doesn't

Janine:

have to drive the bus.

Janine:

That fear doesn't have

Janine:

to be the decision maker.

Janine:

You can show up in a way

Janine:

that shows them what's

Janine:

possible, that you are

Janine:

allowed to be scared.

Janine:

You're just not

Janine:

meant to be stuck.

Janine:

So here's your micro

Janine:

dare for this week.

Janine:

I'd love you to identify

Janine:

one fear that's been holding

Janine:

you back, and then ask

Janine:

yourself, what is a small,

Janine:

really small, consistent

Janine:

way that I can make it move

Janine:

forward, how I can change it?

Janine:

How can I make it

Janine:

part of your routine?

Janine:

how could you do it

Janine:

with someone so that

Janine:

you feel supported?

Janine:

This isn't about slaying fear.

Janine:

It's about shrinking

Janine:

it one day by day,

Janine:

one moment at a time.

Janine:

One post, one offer, one

Janine:

phone call, one brave leaf

Janine:

into the cold water, whatever

Janine:

your version of the ocean is.

Janine:

This is about meeting

Janine:

it once again.

Janine:

If this episode has given

Janine:

you that little fire in

Janine:

your belly, please share it.

Janine:

Please tag me.

Janine:

Please message me.

Janine:

Please leave a review

Janine:

here and tell me what fear

Janine:

are you facing this week,

Janine:

because I'm gonna cheer you

Janine:

on every step of the way.

Janine:

Until next time, stay

Janine:

bold, stay curious, and.

Janine:

As always, keep unleashing.

Janine:

that absolute brilliance

Janine:

that is yours because the

Janine:

world wants you to step into

Janine:

your spotlight and shine.

Janine:

stay curious, keep showing up,

Janine:

and I'll see you next week.
