Business grants for small business owners/founders with Liz Fleming

Do you ever wonder how some businesses seem to have that extra boost, almost like they have a secret weapon in their growth arsenal?

They’re likely getting help from an often-ignored financial resource – business grants. This week I sat down with grant expert Liz Fleming to discuss how entrepreneurs can tap into this resource.

Trust me; you don’t want to miss this!

Government grants are essentially taxpayer money redistributed to help businesses, community groups, and non-profits thrive. Those extra funds can help you fast-track projects or create a more significant impact, so why wouldn’t you tap into them?

Unsure if you’ll be eligible for any grants? Don’t worry. There are more than 2,000 available in Australia at any given time and they cover a broad range of categories and sectors.

From energy efficiency projects—which Liz recently helped secure for eight businesses—to mental health and workplace enhancements, there will be something out there that suits your business.

The key is to identify how your business projects can align with grant categories to open doors you didn’t even realise were there.  For example, something as simple as a yoga workshop could tap into grants related to social belonging, community health, and recreation.

So, how do you find out about these opportunities? Sign up for newsletters from local councils or government bodies and set up alerts on grant directories so you’re notified when a suitable opportunity arises. Being informed and proactive about grants means fewer missed opportunities and more potential successes.

You can’t just wait around for the right opportunity though; you need to be proactive and prepared. The window for applications is typically short and swift, so it’s crucial to keep your business grant-ready. This means having your financials up to date, understanding the eligibility requirements, and creating strong relationships for support letters.

As business owners, we owe it to ourselves to explore these opportunities and think strategically about how grants can aid our growth.

So, ask yourself – If you received a grant, what growth opportunities would you pursue?

And if you aren’t sure where to start, reach out to an expert like Liz Fleming, who can guide you through the process.
