Business Retreats vs. Health Retreats: Choosing the Right One to Transform Your Growth

What do you need right now? Relaxation or activation?

This is the question I ask my clients, many of whom want to know my opinion on how to choose between business retreats and health retreats.

They’re often unsure which holds the most value for them to attend, or even run themselves.

Having run multiple retreats through my Inner Circle, I’ve seen firsthand the impact that a well structured business retreat can have. I also know how rejuvenating a health retreat centred on self-care can be for busy professionals.

Choosing the right type of retreat can be transformative for you and your business – so let’s have a look at how to make the right decision for you, your wellbeing and your progress.

We’ll explore how business and health retreats differ in what they focus on, the areas of growth they inspire and how to choose the one that best serves you at this moment in your life.

Both retreats offer unique benefits, contingent on your current needs and goals. It is vital to be honest with yourself: is it time for rest or rethinking?

Whatever your choice, the essential step is to act. Whether you’re drawn to the deep rest of a health retreat or the invigorating strategy of a business retreat, I encourage you to listen to your instincts and pursue what you truly need now.

If you’re ready to propel your business ambitions, I invite you to explore my Inner Circle retreats. Let’s work together to create the clarity and momentum you need for sustainable growth.

Janine: [00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to another episode of Unleashing Brilliance. I'm your host Janine Garner, and today we're diving into a topic that I am super passionate about. It's also a topic that I have been fielding so many questions from clients over the last year. And those questions relate to Janine, which [00:01:00] one should I choose to go on?

And questions from business owners around the world. Which one, Janine, should I choose to run? What we're diving into today is the difference between business retreats and health retreats and why choosing the right one can be transformative for you and your business. Now, having run multiple inner circle retreats and leadership retreats myself, I've seen firsthand the impact that a well structured business retreat can have.

on your own growth, your clarity and your vision. So let's explore how these two types of retreats serve very different purposes and how to know which one is right for you to either attend or which one is right for you to run for your clients. So let's start with health retreats. Typically, what do they look like?

These retreats are all about [00:02:00] personal wellness. They tend to focus on relaxation, on healing, and often involve things like yoga, meditation, spa treatments and nutritious food. The goal fundamentally is to help you disconnect from the noise of daily life and to give your mind and body the space it needs to recharge.

Now, while this absolutely is incredible valuable, especially if you're feeling burnt out, the focus is very much in inward. It's about you, your physical health, your mental wellbeing, and finding that zen space. But here's the thing, when you come back from a health retreat, often the environment you left is exactly the same.

You're refreshed, absolutely, but the business challenges, well, they might still be waiting for you at the door. So let's talk about business retreats. Business retreats for me are a completely different ball game. [00:03:00] They're not always or solely about disconnecting from your work, but they are about reconnecting with your purpose, your strategy, and your team in a meaningful way.

When I run my inner circle retreats, for example, they aim Isn't to switch off, but to actually deep dive into strategy, into leadership development, into aligning your goals. Actually having the space and time to get some perspective and to think a little bit deeper and more curiously about what it is that you're doing and why.

The structure of my inner circle retreats is designed to really push you to think bigger, to step out of the daily operations and to work on the business instead of in the business. We don't just focus on the business itself, but on who you need to become to lead that business to the next level. For example, at one of our retreats in Byron Bay, what we did is [00:04:00] we combined Thought provoking sessions with immersive experiences like forest therapy.

Walking through the rainforest in complete silence wasn't just about relaxation, it was about gaining new perspectives on our businesses. It helps attendees and guests at the retreat realize that they had been missing opportunities that were really close to hand because of the busyness with which they were running their businesses.

And it also gave them clarity because they were too caught up in their day to day ground beforehand. Now, this is the magic of business retreats, that they bring clarity to the big picture and allow you to recalibrate your focus. So, what's the big difference between these two types of retreats and which one should you attend or even which one should you run?

Well, it comes down to intentionality and activation. Health [00:05:00] retreats are about relaxation. You're stepping away to recharge your energy or resetting how it is that you are physically. doing that self care piece. It's important, especially for those of us who are juggling multiple roles. You may be a parent, a partner, a business owner, but it's more passive and it's very much about self and self care.

You will come back feeling refreshed, but often you might not have truly addressed the root causes of your stress or overwhelm that you might be experiencing in your business. Business retreats, on the other hand, are about activation. You're stepping away from your daily tasks to get intentional about what's next.

It's about curiosity. It's about perspective. It's about having the time to think a little bit more deeply, to reconnect with your why, with your purpose. It's about clarity. It's about commitment. It's not just about [00:06:00] you. It's about your vision, your team, and your future. And these retreats bring you back to your business with a new strategic plan, a new energy, and a new mindset.

In my Inner Circle retreats, we work on real time, um, Issues and we make real decisions. We ask tough questions like what's holding you back from growing? Where do you want to take your business in the next 12 months? What's the one thing that will make the biggest difference in your success? What are the questions that you should actually be asking right now?

That if you had the answers, they may just give you the answers that you are seeking, the ideas that you are looking for. This is not just about reflection, it's about action too. Another big difference for me is what happens after the retreat. After a health retreat, You're on your own to maintain that sense of wellness.

You know, that's why people often find themselves [00:07:00] booking another retreat a few months later, because the effects don't necessarily last long enough once they're back in their regular routine. But a business retreat is a game changer. It sets you on a path of momentum. After my inner circle retreats, attendees don't just go back to their desks with a notebook full of ideas.

They go back with a clear action plan. They're equipped to lead their teams better, to make smarter decisions and to move forward with confidence. This isn't about a quick fix. It's about a long term transformation that I've seen it time and time again where clients have breakthroughs that ripple through their businesses, whether it's doubling their revenue, leading more impactful teams, or stepping into new opportunities that previously seemed out of reach.

So how do you know Which type of retreat is right for you? Here's a quick framework help you decide. [00:08:00] I reckon if you're physically, mentally, and emotionally drained, a health retreat might be just what you need to reset your system, but if you're feeling stuck in your business, if you're lacking clarity, or you know, there's a next level that you need to reach, but you aren't sure how to get there, then a business retreat is the answer.

The truth is both types of retreats can be beneficial depending on where you are at in your journey. You've just got to be really honest with yourself about what you need right now. Do you need time to rest or do you need time to rethink? So what do you need right now? Is it time for some deep rest and relaxation?

Or is it time to get really clear on what's next in your business? Either way, I encourage you to take action, whether it's joining a business retreat, like the ones I run for my inner circle or my leaders or my VIP community, or finding a wellness space to recharge. The key is don't ignore what you [00:09:00] need.
