Why is it that despite being more connected virtually than ever before I am having so many people telling me they are feeling disconnected?
Are the networking skills that we used pre-Covid really that different now we are having to connect online?
And if the skills are different what is it that we need to do now to network and connect?
These are just some of the questions that have filled my inbox and LinkedIn messages over the last few weeks.
On top of this, I have had so many suppliers and employees complaining that the only time they get a call or zoom invite is when something is needed – that the relaxed, chit chat about business, ideas, options and possibilities is quite simply not happening.
In my mind there is NO difference to connecting and networking online vs in person.
Networking, irrespective of where we do it, is ultimately about connecting.
Connecting is about being human
And being human is about being yourself.
As Desmond Tutu so rightly said, “A person is a person through other persons; you can’t be human in isolation, you are human only in relationships.”
In this VLOG I share 3 ideas about how we have to work that little bit harder when we network online in terms of:
- Intentional vs Passive
- Engage vs Silent
- Give vs Take
Until next week.
