‘The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid but he who conquers that fear’ – Nelson Mandela
There is one thing that is the constant, prowling enemy of new thinking, new ideas, new initiative and, above all, change. That one thing?
Status quo.
Think about it.
What does status quo actually mean? By definition, it is the ‘existing state of affairs’. It equals keeping things as they are. In work terms, it equals acceptance – even if you aren’t necessarily overjoyed by a situation, because you don’t want to rock the boat, or to keep going with the metaphor, upset the corporate apple cart. It means doing things in the same way as we have always done – same procedures, same methodologies. The result?
No change, no initiative, no evolution.
I don’t know about you, but as business women and men of worth and leaders, acceptance of the ‘now’ doesn’t equate to progress.
What I do know from reading stories of amazing entrepreneurs, CEOs and thought leaders is that the one thing that separates them from the masses – the tipping point that takes them from zero to one hundred miles per hour in 5 seconds flat – is the ability and willingness to have courageous conversations.
Take a look around at those that have changed the game. The one thing that connects them is having the courage to zig while others zag. The courage to ask the difficult questions – of both others and themselves – and to gain a new perspective. Above all, they have the courage to take action with a new perspective, to think differently, to do differently.
To have the courage to be a game changer.
I truly believe there’s a revolution going on, presenting us with the chance to change the rules, to contribute individually and to create disruption (if you want to!). There is an incredible opportunity to change the corporate and business game.
Take a moment to look at where you are tolerating average thought – from yourself and from others – and where you could disrupt thinking.
What’s stopping you from changing your own game?
