Be honest with me…what are the values you hold dear?
I asked because the truth is…
When you know what your values are, it gives you conviction.
It even gives you a sense of who you are.
What’s more, your values provide you with guidelines on the type of people that you want to surround yourself with.
And this is very useful as you build your network because it attracts the right people to you.
Think about it.
If you’re surrounded by people who have the same values as you…
It feels harmonious. Right?
And it’s easier to move and make a connection.
So if you want to hire someone in your business…
Or you’re trying to build your network…
Consider your values to determine who you want to connect with.
Does that mean you stay away from people who aren’t aligned?
Of course, not.
You can still network with people you don’t share values with. In fact, it’s unavoidable.
But if you have clarity on what’s important to you, it becomes easier to connect to those who are misaligned.
Why?
Because you’re approaching the conversation with the right expectations.
You’ll know that your differences mean you’re going to react differently from them on some issues.
You’ll know how to avoid being easily offended if they don’t agree with you.
You’ll be a bit more understanding, open-minded, and patient when dealing with them.
Now, I invite you to do a simple exercise:
Make a list of all the values you hold dear. Then, ask yourself this question:
“Which of these would I like my business to reflect?”
By identifying those values, you’ll set up the culture that you want in your business…
You’ll identify the people you want to hire to help it grow…
You’ll establish guidelines when it comes to the business you want to network with…
Ultimately, you’ll have a business that’s a reflection of YOU!
